The class will begin Monday and run for 18 weeks. A more advanced ! section which builds on the beginn-- J ing class and continues the training ' program, will start on Feb. 20. Both: classes are taught under of Category II Law F,n-- ! forcement, which applies to law en-- ! forcement personnel who are' in that employed only part-timcareer. Both lead to the state Category II Law Enforcement certi-; ficate, he said. The course is valuable in ac-- ; quainting a person with law enforce-- ! ment occupations, providing addi-- ! tional skills to those already' employed or seeking promotions, Berensen said. To enroll for the beginning class, a student must have a high school education or equivalent, be 19 years; or older, with no criminal record, be; a United States citizen and have no physical or psychological im- -' pairments. Although the beginning class is oc-- , casionally offered at the Police Academy, Mr. Berensen said it has been moved into the college setting in the evenings for the convenience of those who are employed during the day. Mr. Berensen has been a certified police instructor since 1972. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has a degree in sociology and police science.
