The Salt Lake County Assn, of Community Coun- cils here Thursday night elected new officers and conducted preliminary discussion on a proposed ordinance that would govern councils in the unincorporated area. Janet Geyser of the Mt. Olympus Council is the new president, succeeding Allen Howard. Two Green; Sheet area residents were also elected to office, including David Dittman of the Millcreek Community Council, vice president; and Kim Roylance of the Kearns Town Council, secretary. Also was Norman Simms, Granite Council, treasurer. During discussion of the proposed ordinance, some council members questioned the degree of involvement the County Commission should have with the council. Some questioned whether the commission should have the authority to change boundaries of council districts. Further discussion of the ordinance proposal is anticipated at the associations February meeting. The Magna Council Community Service award was implemented in January 1973, with the first recipient being Mr. Cromar who was recognized for 25 years of service at that time. He remained an active and productive member of the group until his death in 1982. Judge Walker, the second person to receive the award, was an active member until the spring of 1983 when he underwent eye surgery. In 1975, Tom Barker received the award, followed by Mr. Smith, 1976, Orlean Richardson, 1977; Joe Ribot-to- , 1978; Mrs. Pehrson, 1979: Mrs. Archibald, 1980; Mr. Reese, 1981; Mr. Ribotto and Jim Ladd in 1983. In summing up, Mrs. Pehrson said the Magna Council is not only the oldest council in the county, but is the largest as well with a total of 23 members. Some are appointed by various organizations, while others are elected from geographical districts within the area. Positive steps taken by the council that have affected the lifestyle here include the council taking a vigorous stand to prevent a garbage dump from being located on the Magna watershed; a feed mill on the south west side of town; a fiber glass fabricating plant from being located in the extreme west end of town.
