A monument to earGranger Schools, especially the old Monroe school, will be dedicated during services to be held at 10 oclock Saturday morning in the fifth floor auditorium of the Harmon Building at 3500 South and 4000 West. The Valley West and . Julia Eldredge DUP camps are very proud to annouce the completion of this monument, which stands on the northwest corner of the Harmon commented Patsy Larbuilding, son, spokesman for the group. Monroe school was built in 1893 across the street from the monument site, on land now occupied by Paulos auto. The monument, built by Robert Light, is a granite bell framed by yellow brick to match the building. Chairman of the project was Stella P. Frahm, who was both a student and a teacher at Monroe school, assisted by Enid Woodbury, also a teacher and student there, along with Mrs. Larson, Cleo Light, Martha Moulton and Jean Fjeldsted. The inscription on the bell tells the story of the schools. When Joseph Harker crossed Jordan River at 3300 South, in 1848, he luckily found springs. By 1870 pioneers had settled the Granger area. School was held in homes until 1882 when the 16x24 foot West Granger school was built at 3500 South and 4000 West on property donated by Alma Mathews. Miss Moore was the first teacher. Next, the Dewey school was built mile west of Redwood Road on 3500 South. Students at Kearns high will kick off Homecoming activities with a parade Monday evening.
