Its an important game for us because Larson, the new Cougar grid coach, has the unenviable task of facing what once was the biggest game on the Cougar schedule as he makes his debut. Making it tougher is the fact that Larson has strong ties to Granger both by residence and the fact that he was an assistant coach at Granger before coming to Kearns. However, he has ties to Kearns that go beyond his new coaching position. Larson was the line coach for the Cougars in the glory years of the early Seventies when beating Granger was commonplace. Larson is hoping to rebuild that Cougar tradition. He knows he has an uphill task. Seven years isnt all that long ago (the last winning season at Kearns), but theres an attitude here that if we show people we can win, then maybe theyll join us. Hell take a young club into tomorrows fray, but one he has high hopes for, based on some solid talent in the skill positions and linemen who have taken well to the new system. He also has some mixed emotions in going against Lancer Coach Mike Fraser. The two have been on the same side of the field for about eight years - years in which Granger has won six of the last seven games with the Cougars and bolted to an 6 win-los- s mark. edge in the That scares Fraser, who also admits to having mixed emotions going into the contest. The pressures on us, he insists. Tom has an advantage. He knows our every weakness and hes crazy if he doesnt exploit them.
