This reviewer had never seen the stage production and looked forward eagerly to being exposed to something new on the high school stage. She was not disappointed. The immensely appealing tale of Don Quixote was by a dedicated group of talented actors and actresses. No nuance of the unfamiliar tale went undetected. The selection was based partly on the state-wid- e well-tol- d fact that every available inch of the remaining space at Cyprus is being used for classrooms - including the backstage area. That meant that a -- one-se- t production would ease some of the woes that director Charlie Brown knew he would face. And what a set it was. Brown designed it and there was a great deal of work put in by a student crew. No setting could have been more perfect. Small details such as cobwebs were outstanding. The set was tremendously func- tional. It allowed for performances from varied levels and helped to create the perfect atmosphere for the dramatic pro- duction. Several of the performers were sufficiently talented that they might have been able to pull off their roles on a bare stage. The obvious star of the show was Theron Read as Don Quixote (Cervantes). There was excellent transition between the two roles. Every move from him. Quixotes end was superb. As Aldonza, Mia ment seemed planned. He brought a bright personality to the character that kept the show of a lighter nature. He moved very well across the stage. As The Inkeeper (The Governor), Kyle Johns turned in a San-ch- o masterful performance. His maturi- ty was especially ef fective and his concentration was total. Even the articles that do pertain to the Lake Ridge Community Council are usually not fair representation. I sincerely wonder why the members of the Magna Community Council are so defensive and openly antag- onistic. Are they afraid that someone may discover that change is often better? Just because theyve done things a certain way for 50 years does not necessarily mean that it is the best way or the only way. The problems that face us today are very different now than then. And there are a lot of younger families with different needs in this area. If I werent in favor the Lake Ridge Community Council before, I certainly am now. I really am concerned about the attitudes and actions of of that Brisbane was right. Nothing will be impossible eventually. Brisbane also remarked quite often that man can do anything he can think of. And the powers of our thoughts are just now beginning to be realized. I have witnessed some great changes in the mode of living for most people in the short span of my lifetime. Not even the rich people had electric lights, typewriters, radios, television, airplanes, automobiles, computers, ad infinitum. Maybe you are right about one thing that the good old days - werent so good after all, but I would make you a small wager that people were just as happy in those good old days, or even more so than they are today. We must remember that every generation will recall the good old days. With kindest regards and best wishes to you for a long and happy life. Ira Carley members of the Magna Community Council.
