One is an Apple, like the new one. The other, a Pet, has no disc but uses tapes We hope to get a printer, Mr, Reynolds expressed, "since they are unable ,to produce print-out- s there at the school We still have the direct terminal to the UofU though, he said. In the course, students are taught to write programs which tell the computer to go through certain steps, such as how to find prime numbers The computer works by doing computations. Another example might be a fifth degree equation Rather than getting points for plotting a graph, the computer does calculations, thus doing away with a lot of drudgery, he said The first part of the year in the course, hand calculators are used. Computers do eveything a calculator can do, but in addition can store that information for use m further calculations. A calculator is really a small computer, the instructor revealed To students taking it dont need the credits to fill graduation require- ments Those signing up for second year do work on an individual basis, Mrs. Reynolds explained They learn FORTRAN or formula translation, the language used for scientifically-oriente- d computers Business computers, on the other hand, are in COBAL language, it was explained Looking back 10 years ago, the teacher remembered some 20 students m his first class Now there are 76 registered in the three classes. With the in- creased enrollment comes the need for more computers and time spent with them. We plan to get a couple more because of hands-o- n time needed, he continued. We were given an IBM System 3 by but cant use it. We need a printer and card punch for it to be operational and with the lack of funds and added reduction of education funds, it doesnt appear to be something that can be expected m the near future, he suggested in Computers are and becoming even more a part of the world each day. With that in mind, students are pursuing the use of the amazing instruments that save a lot of time. Computers arent the domain of the male either. population Classes at Cottonwood are nearly a third female this year, Mr Reynolds stated Magna Library Offers Movies MAGNA A series of iranra Lil Rascal movies will be hsown at 1:30 p m.
