Show T 'Always Someone There To Help' Involvement by Margaret Slack If you think that you can or you a friend once told a Granger resident. cant, youre right, well-know- n Darlene Hutchison has remembered that advice through the years as she has raised her family, losing several through death, and yet has achieved success in many different capacities. Another friend jolted her one day, when her spirits were very low, by chiding her, Darlene, I never thought you were a quitter. That counsel stuck too. Reviewing her joys and her sorrows over the years, the vivacious mother and grandmother observed, In all the things Ive done and all Ive been through, Ive always' had someone there to help me. Without the help of others, I couldnt have made it. Her list of involvements, accomplishments and interests is much too long to list, but mention the name Darlene Hutchison and you can be sure youll find an interested ear, regardless of the company youre in. The Hutchisons came to Granger in 1955, back when 3500 South was a road and barely paved nights were so quiet, one felt almost two-lan- e all alone in the world. Mrs. Hutchison remembered that back then, not a light could be seen after 9 p.m. Today the hustle and bustle of the area compares with the hectic, busy life of this mother and grandmother who is completing her third successful year as Utah State PTA president, among other assignments. She is the mother of six children, four of them living. Her husband Richard died three years ago, daughter Jodi in 1973 in her senior year at Granger high and still another daughter Nancy was hit by a car and killed at the age of 15 months. Shes proud of her family, including the oldest son Rich, now in his third year as a law student at the UofU. He and his wife, Deborah Strong who attended Olympus high, have one child who turned a year old this Halloween. Rich can be remembered as having been a student body officer at Granger high and having been an intern to Sen. Orrin Hatch in Washington, D.C. Son Scott played varsity football at Granger and is attending UofU majoring in public communications. Just this fall he married Susan Hansen, a Cottonwood high graduate. Daughter Julie was student body 3B - WEST VALLEY VIEW Thursday, Jan 8,1981 - That's Darlene Hutchison historian at Granger high, now doing student teaching in the valley. She will graduate in home ec and child development in the spring. She was married three years ago. She is on the Granite Curriculum Committee and is a member of the new West Valley City Board of Adjustments. She has freely volunteered her time over the years to help others Despite her busy public life, she has always had a position m church. Whether its conducting a state PTA session, directing a ward road show, cooking a dinner for her family or friends visiting with her long-timover a quilt, Darlenes outgoing, warm personality, sprinkled with enthusiasm and interest in others, makes her a delightful person to e know. A close family friend advised Mrs. Hutchison during her busy years of volunteer service, Remember FFA, Family First Always, and she has tried to do just that She vouches for that good counsel, stressing the importance of listening to ones own children. Shes quick to add that the achievements of her family members are due in great part to all the support she had from her husband and his love for and involvement with his children.
