Plans to reduce the budget in line with cuts mandated by the State Legislature have been announced at Utah Technical College. James Schnirel, interim president, said money to alleviate the shortage already has been saved by the college through its energy conservation program. During an address to the faculty and staff at Utech, Schnirel reported that because of its energy-savin- pro- g cedures, the Institution has realized financial savings. No building on the campus is being heated above 68 degrees. Though the one percent cut in college funding will decrease the an ticipated budget by about $74,000, Schnirel said the fuel and power savings will make up the shortage. He does not anticipate any salary cuts, he added. He reported that the college met earlier cuts oi 24 percent requested by Gov. Scott Matheson by trimming energy costs. Paul Gundersen, director of facilities, is search committee, credited, along with Joe Johnson, retired director of facilities, with the energy savings. According to the presi- dent, some austere years may be ahead for the college because of state budget problems. However, UTC already has learned to operate efficiently, he con- tinued. Appointment of a per under the chairmanship of Lynn Dougan of the State Board of Regents, is being formed. Reiterating his goals as interim head of the college, he cited his desire to improve communication, to reach out into the community and to strengthen the role of Institutional colleges Council. Id like the institution to be in good shape for the new president," he said. The function of the college is to provide vocational and technical knowledge to help the uncommitted student to find himself." Latino Group Sponsoring Fund Raiser SALT LAKE.
