Show DAILY HERALD Sunday, August 21, 2005 OBITUARE oon Woodrow Smith Robert D. Frandsen, Lt. Col, ret., was killed in a tragic car crash in Leavenworth, KS,on August 12, 2005. He was born April 6,1950, at Ft. Sill, OK, the War Veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. he retired in 1993, with 23 years of active duty, he was a strong spokesman for Veteran's Rights. He was appointed to the Persian Gulf War Veterans HealthInitiative Board in 2003. He had been ill for several years. A veteran of the war in the Pacific who flew from the aircraft carriers USS Enterprise and USS Hornet,Voris shot downeight Japanese fighter planes andparticipated in numerous battles, including Santa Cruz, Guadalcanal, Tarawa and the Philippine Sea. Voris was flight officer in the Instructors Advanced Training Unit at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1946 when Adm.Chester W.Nimitz,the chief of naval operations, ordered the establishmentofa flight demonstration team to showcase naval aviation.
