Storm Drain Repairs Costly SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) — Officials say it will cost more than $200,000 to repair a storm drain in the avenues area which was washed out by heavy rains this spring. Acting City Public Works Director Jim Talebreza said Tuesday it will cost about $198,000 to relocate the drain and stabilize soils on the north slope of City Creek Canyon. Another $15,000 will be needed to revegetate the area, he said. House Votes for Tar SandsBill WASHINGTON (UPI) — The House voted 416-0 Tuesday to amend the 1920 Mineral Leasing Act to allow companies to apply for a combined hydrocarbon lease when searching for and developing tar sands deposits. Rep. Dan Marriott. R-Utah. who introduced the bill jointly with Rep. JamesSantini, D-Nev., said the House action will help open up Utah's tar sands resources to commercial producion. The dill removes a requirement which demands that applicants for federal leases make a distinction between tar sands and oil when asking for permission to develop reserves.
