Designated as District No. 17, it was formed to unify and support registered nurses locally. THE ACTING board of this would organization appreciate input from all registered nurses.. .whether currently employed; or Future unemployed. inservices, programs, workshops, and continuing education, should apply to your needs; whatever they may be. HONORED GUESTS were Dora Trowbridge of Bountiful and Gretta Sharp of Salt Lake City. Both these ladies also served as judges for table decorations and for the scrapbooks which must depict the current theme and meet specific requirements. Awards for table decorations went to Beta Rho - Lay-toKaysville area; Alpha Phi - Bountiful; Beta Mu Fruit Heights, East Layton area. n, -- SCRAPBOOK AWARDS were won by Bountiful's Xi Alpha Gamma, first place; Beta Mu and Beta Rho took second and third places. The most coveted award of all is the Girl of the Year. This is voted by the members for their own chapter and kept secret until its place on the program. Receiving this award were: Louise Sill of Beta Alpha - East Layton; Mary Wakefield of Beta Mu; Barbara Craig of Beta Rho; Ruth Campbell of Preceptor . WHEN THE PTA staged its speech awareness cam- paign, buttons bearing phrases the students coined were sold and distributed to students. Elementary studentsenthusiastically wore buttons bearing such slogans as Profanity Is Insanity and If You Care, Dont Swear.. Since eight Friday students from hundred thirty-fiv- e schools throughout the state have been debating such issues as international disarmament punishment for terrorists and human rights. THE DISCUSSIONS were held in the University of Utah' Union Building. The students discussed the many problems of the day such as Chiles disregard of human rights. The group recommended establishment of a world university system, because education is necessary for tomorrows world. They also recommended the establishing of a worldwide press system to preserve ' freedom of the press. THEY ALSO introduced a resolution to eradicate worldwide use of marijuana. This resolution was unanimously rejected. Some students who took part in the proceedings were Kevin Briant, Mike Smedley and John Horsley. Awards were presented to outstanding students. Kurt Moeder.a senior of Brighton, received first place for his work on social and economic development. Mr. Moeder said he spoke thirty times during his committee chairmanship. THE COUNTRIES studied were Africa, Asia and the South Pacific. The Utah Model U.N. is considered one of the best in the United States. Kurt said it is hjrd to get people to agree. He also said Israel was the most unpopular country represented. THE MODEL United Nation in Utah has a national reputation of good organization and loyal support of the Utah people, the state high schools and the state United Nations organizations. Citizens make homes for the students while they are here, the U.N. group sponsors a reception at the Hotel Utah for the delegates and their families and the Utah Orchestra Symphony . presents a concert at the Tabernacle.
