Eugene Jensen, his wife Nancy, and Arthur King went from Sanpete County. The convention was well attended from all 50 states, and we saw a lot of conservation practices along the way. NoTill is another new practice that being used on some farms. This practice replaces all conventional tillage operations on the ground. Farmers can also use this method to renovate their pastures with this method. Farmers may be able to get 50 percent cost share on this practice. Contact the ASCS office or the Soil Conservation Service for more information. Conservation Reserve is a new program this year. Any farmer with marginal land that is highly erodiblc. may be eligible to sign up to lease this land for ten years for an annual rental payment to be determined by the landowner. ASCS will provide up e to eligible to 50 percent landowners to plant this land into perennial grass or trees. Anyone interested in this program should contact the ASCS office or the Soil Conservation Service. The Sanpete Soil Conservation District has purchased a new drill for farmers "Haybuster" No-tito use in practices. This drill will band fertilizer in rows along the seed. This saves a great deal of fertilizer. This drill can also be used to renovate irrigated and wet meadow pastures. Anyone interested in this drill should contact the Soil Conservation Service or one of the SCD board supervisors. cost-shar- is ll no-ti- |
