Gilbert and Sullivan have Been described as the masters of comic opera and the parents of modern musicals. That their works are as much in demand today as they were when they were written a century ago is ample proof of their evergreen talent People should not be scared off by the word opera. Pirates is nothing more than a lot of fun that will make you 7-- 9. 283-402- forget your worries and problems, said Christison. I Page 3 Helping your child First Weddings Thursday, February 21, 1991 e, 1 Just an example of the zany comedy you can expect at the production is the way the hero came to be. The hero is a pirate only because as a child his father told his nurse to have him apprenticed as a pilot. She thought the old boy said pirate. A group of pretty girls on a picnic stumble on the buccaneers, who insist on marrying them then and there. Immediate mass nuptials are forestalled only by the girls father who swears hes an orphan and needs his daughters. Everyone knows the pirates are all devout orphans and will never inconvenience one of their kind, and so it goes, more zany trouble. Christison said, The kids are really doing a great job! I knew I had a great bunch to work with, but things are working out even better than I thought. This is going to be fun. Overall, the six nightly performances, spread over two weeks, promises to be some of the most delightful time ever spent in a theater. Pirates not only features some great dialogue and some wonderful music, but it also highlights a stage full of people. The cast consists of nearly 40 people. Shop Locally Whenever Possible! |
