The TRIO program is part of the United States govern- ments plan to help bright students get a good education. It is the one plan for the disadvantaged that uses education, not welfare, to solve problems. Since its inception the TRIO family has actually been expanded to five programs, but Snow College has only been granted funding for three: Student Support Services, Upward Bound, and Talent Search. Talent Search, directed by Dr. Ken Jackson, reaches students in the seventh and eighth grades, and adults up to the age of 27 who have the potential to succeed in a postsecondary educational setting (college, university, vocational, or military). Services include: career counseling, educational financial aid counseling, personal counseling, assistance for individuals with special needs, and assistance for high school and college dropouts. Upward Bound serves also students from grades under Dr. Jacksons direction. These students must also show potential for successful postsecondary level achievement.
