Show Thursday, October 24, 1996 Muhlesteins ask permission to construct Assisted Care Facility Ephraim City Council News By Lynn Schiffman A Power Board Resolution, discussion about a minimum elderly care center, an appeal for a skate- boarding area, and discussion about Fire Department Policy, board appointments and vacancies, served as the basis for Ephraim City Council agenda last Wednesday. Council Chambers were crowded with citizens with concerns about the agenda items. Minimum Care Facility Prior to City Council a public hearing was held to receive citizen input to a proposed assisted care facility in Ephraim. Robert and Amy Muhlestein introduced their concept of a 1 minimum care facility. This type of housing, primarily for elderly patients, is intended for those who need a little help to get out of bed but who are able to feed themselves, and take their own medication. In this planned unit, each bedroom would have its own private bathroom, but the facility would house a large diningactiv-it- y area. Meals would be prepared under the direction of a licensed dietitian. In addition, and in another 24-ho- ur phase, the Muhlesteins would build condominium units for those who are more ambulatory and need less care. The construction is designed to look like a home, not a building. The Muhlesteins are not strangers to elderly care. Amy has a degree in gerontology and Robert works with state medicaid. After the public hearing, and in order to proceed with the plans to build this care center, the Muhlesteins will need to present their plans to the Planning and Zoning Commission. After the Commissions review and upon its approval, they will then need to approach the City all-bri- Council for appropriate zoning changes and approval. Page 5 Messenger-Enterpris- e rumors are false! All phases came within target and all funds have been in place since the bids were let. Any delays in construction at this point will likely be caused by weather conditions. For questions about the streets, citizens should call their appropriate councilperson (Bart Nelson in the northeast, Cliff Birrell in the center east, Lynn Schiffman in the southeast, June Crane in the southwest, and Loma Larsen in the northwest sector). Otherwise, call rollerblading activity.
