U.S. should withdraw from U.N. To the Editor: The upcoming United Naday brings up some questions as to whether it is a good thing or not. The United Nations Charter proclaims in Article 2, Paragraph tions 7: Many "good kids" around To the Editor: want to share a special experience that happened to me a few weeks ago. It brightened my day and ga c reinforcement to the fact that there are a lot of good kids out there in this crazy and mixed up world. ..Let me tell you about two of them here in Manti. I have a hard time guessing ages but they may be six or se cn or even eight. I went to the store and as I was by the candy bins my sweet tooth started aching. I was going to look at the chocolate candies but I was distracted by two darling little boys who were on the other side of the bins and were concentrat1 ing on those huge speckled guinballs. 1 asked them if that was their favorite? "Yes". "I low do you eat anything so big?" Oh, its easy. We just lick them and they even change colors". Then they wondered what kind of candy I liked and was going to buy. "Oh, I like the chocolate candies with nuts and most all of these. They came o er to that side and watched me scoop some bridge mix into a sack. They informed me that I must fasten it w ith this little thing, as he handed me one. It was obvious that their sweet teeth were also aching so I told them I would give them some of mine after I paid for it. I reached for the handle of my cart but one of them was there lirst. le pushed it to my next stop and he felt sad because he couldn't reach the top of the stack of crackers to help me. had asked their names and this time I was the one to feel sad because didnt know any of their 1 1 1 parents. low ever, one boy spoke up and said "Ill bet you know my 1 grandma. "What is your He told me grandma's name? and said, Do you know her? Yes, I know her and shes a really neat lady and a super grandma isn't she?" That brought a big smile!! We soon came to the checkout and as they put my few items on the counter and the clerk started to check them one of them spoke up and ever so proudly said were helping this old lady. Me - old?? The clerk hurriedly tried to defend me by say ing she isnt old. Oh yes she is ...shes a grandma. 1 thought this was a precious observation. I could have given them their candy then but they pushed the cart out of the store and to the car and then handed me the bags to put in. I said now which bag is that candy in? and they knew exactly which bag. After they each finally had their handful of candy I expected them to just run off. But they didn't! ! Not until the one boy walked around to the other side of the car and opened the door for me. This is the important part of niy whole story. There are some parents here in Manti who are working at being good examples to their children, a husband who Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state. . . Isnt that perfectly clear? History records that our nation and virtually all nations would never have joined the U.N. in 1945 if Article 2, Paragraph 7 had not been included in the Charter. Then came Somalia, Haiti, and the U.N. sponsored incursion into Iraq. The problems existing within each nation were within their borders. American forces were sent into sovereign nations under U.N. authority to carry out missions which are completely in violation of the U.N.s own Charter. The recent air and missile attacks against Iraq were launched in response to a dispute between the Iraqi government and its northern Kurdish faction. The problem is entirely within Iraq. But, incredibly, the U.N. claims that this very same article of the U.N. Charter supplies authorization for its action against Iraq. Because some Kurdish refugees have fled to a nearby nation, the U.N. says it is now an International problem. The precedents being set pose a distinct threat to any nation. If U.S. military forces respond to the U.N.s illegal calls for action against a sovereign nation, how long will it be before the forces of other nations are sent by the U.N. to intervene in our domestic problems? The U.S. must withdraw from the U.N., a lawless body whose very existence jeopardizes every nation. And the U.S. military should never again be placed at the disposal of the world body.
