Show Page What is abuse? By Jeanninc Chisholm New Horizons Volunteer When you are hurt by a person you love, you feel ashamed and alone. You think you are the only one who has this problem. That's not true. Many women are hurt by partners a boy friend, a husband, or a lover. Between 20 and 50 percent of all women are hit by partners at least once. Many more suffer from emotional abuse. May be y ou're still not sure this describes your problem. You've heard all the terms 'Battering, "Wife beating, "Domestic lence, "Emotional abuse Vio- but what do they mean? Abuse is any mistreatment of another person. This is the first in a series of articles about Domestic Violence. The first step in putting a stop to this rampaging problem is to come to a better understanding of it. We need to work together as families, as neighbors, as communities.
