Thats w hat the book we got from the library says. Well see. A few years ago, Mark and I piled some yard cleanings in a corner to create a compost pile. The pile sat and sat. Nothing happened. Finally a year later, I got rid of the pile by filling our garbage can. Early this year, we bought some barrels of beautiful, black, crumbly soil amendment from Utah Compost. I wished we were rich enough to buy a ton of it to cover our light brown clay soil. The urge hit. I decided to try blender: cloves of garlic 3 4 hot red peppers, and tablespoons of dish soap. Put this liquidized mixture in a 2 sprayer, and fill the balance of the sprayer jar with ammonia. Apply this solution liberally around the edges of your yard and garden and along sidewalks. You should repeat often, especially after it rains. This simple tonic should do hose-en- d composting again. If composting happens on the banks of the Sanpilch River (Utah Composts lot), it should be able to happen in my backyard a few blocks away. I began reading about composting and found out some mistakes we had made w ithour first pile. First, it wasn't big enough. A compost pile has to be at least 3'x3x3' tocreale enough heat inside to keep decomposition happen- the trick! Soon Ahby and Nathan learned that running the bucket out to dump it on the compost pile was one of their new errands. Abby, upon seeing a new assortment of kitchen scraps in the bucket usually asks, "Will this make good dirt?" This was going to be a lay mans compost pile. 1 wasnt going to turn it or fuss about it. I planned on piling stull in the Nix all summer. I was hoping to find some nice black soil amendment waiting for me to use on my flower beds. ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS.
