Show a! letters Students and steroids I'd like to protest the cover image for yourstory aboutsteroids (“The steroid epidemic,” May 15-17). You showed a picture of an extremely athletic, handsome young manholding a syringe obviously containingsteroids. This is an unfortunate image to relay to young people. Perhaps it would have been better if the photo had shown some steroid side effects, like acne and increased facial hair. WAYNE CALLEN Leadville, Colo. Your story was well done and made several excellent points. We are currently nearing the end ofthe production ofa steroid curriculum that will be disseminated to every junior and senior high schoolin Iowa this summer. We, too, have hn evening out. been working very hard to educate people aboutthe hazardsofsteroids. You seemed to overlook the fact that a signifi- cant percentage ofthe national park system is found in the 50thstate. I’m also puzzled byyourlist of the 10 least visited national parks. Am I to believe that Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska receives more visitors than North Cascades National Park in Washington? J suspect you [deliberately] chose to ignore Alaska but weren’t honest enoughto say so in your story. WILLIAM BRITT Jr. Anchorage Editor’s note: Wefocused on the most visited national parks; none of Alaska’s parks ranks among the 10 most popular. As for the least visited parks, you’re right: Wefailed to include Alaska. A corrected list would include two Alaskan parks: Kobuk Valley and Kenai Fjords.
