Show Saturday, June 27, 1992 5A RodneyKing arrested after fighting with his wife a fight with her husband, police said. > King, 27, was arrested at his apartment in the city’s Studio City area, said Deputy Police Chief Mark Kroeker. Kroeker said King initially was “a little bit upset” but cooperated as officers handcuffed him and took him to the North Hollywood Station for questioning “He settled down and he’s smil- ing and talking to officers now,” Kroeker said. Kroeker described the injuries to King’s wife, Crystal Waters, as minor cuts. It was awhile after officers arrived before Mrs. King told them who her husband was, Kroeker said. King’s March 1991 beating after a traffic stop led to the arrest of four Los Angeles police officers on brutality charges. The officers’ acquittal on most charges sparked this year’s deadly Los Angeles riots. The arrest was King’s second since a bystander videotaped his beating at the hands ofpolice after he had been pulled over for speed- ing. King was arrested in May 1991 after an encounter with vice officers in Hollywood. Police said King tried to run down an officer with his truck after officers saw him pick up a transvestite prostitute. He was released and no char- ges were filed King’s beating led to crisis in the city over the operation ofits Police Department and the department’s leadership. After months of wrangling. Chief Daryl Gates agreed to retire. His resignation takes effect Sunday. and former Philadelphia Police Commissioner Willie Williams was sworn in Fridayto replace him. King’s arrest comes as the City Council is considering a settlement 3930 Washington e 393-5864 THE BABE (PG) 7.00 NIGHTLY D GREEN TOMATOES (PG-13 9:15 Nightly_ ALL SEATS $1.00 AP (pecorswar P@026666066666666% LOS ANGELES (AP) — Videotaped beating victim Rodney King was arrested Friday after his wife told police she had been injured in CAPE CANAVERAL,Fla.
