The Rev. Edward Mullen, pastor of St. Edward Catholic Church, told panshioners he would not allow flags, patriotic songs or prayers for public officials at the church. By ruling last month that prayers at commencement exercises were unconstitutional, the court declared “God is not welcome on pubhic property or in public events,” Mullen said. “Well, if God is not welcome on public turf, neither is the state welcome on church turf. This separation cuts both ways,” Mullen said. (AP) — A moderate earthquake jolted Southern California Saturday, one of dozens of temblors felt since twin quakes devastated desert and mountain communities nearly two weeks ago. It caused slight damage and minor injunes to one person, authorities said. The quake’s magnitude was estimated at 5.1 on the Richter scale, said Tom Heaton, a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Pasadena.
