Second annual 5000 meter RUN FOR FUN race is coming to Roy Saturday, May 9 at 9 a.m. Mark the date and the race site North Park on your calendar Utah Girl Scout Council, KPRQ Radio in Murray; and J.B.s Big Boy Restaurants challenge you, your friends or the whole family to participate in a 4ui race. With a little serious training, almost everyone can run the 3.1 miles; but you can walk the distance if . you prefer. For the, competitive types, race director Donna' BaldwinDew has Gold, Silver and Bronze medals fof the top three male finishers, the top three female finishers and the top three Girl Scout finishers. Colorful race will be given to each par- ticipant. This year each finisher will receive a certificate and ribbons will be awarded to the first 3 finishers in each division. The divisions have been established according to age and sex. Everyone pays $4.00 entry fee. Entry forms RUN FOR FUN are available at J.B.s Big Boy Restaurants, local sporting goods centers and KPRQ radio station. Registration sign up time is at North Park from 7 a.m. to 8:45 jo. on May 9. The lancers finished in 11th place in the meet. What Roy lacks in quantity, it makes up in quality for its track program. Sue Iron Men combined, Saturday, for fouvbld medals and two silver, to propel the Royals into second place at the Standard Examiner Invitational Track Meet. Richard Davis caputured top honors in the 100 and 200 meter races, and anchored the winning 440 yard relay team. With times of 10.96 seconds in the 100, and 21.97 in the 200 meter, Davis broke the existing state 4 A records. He teamed up with Ran Jones, Richard Hess and Scott Howse to the 440 in 43.73 seconds. Hillcrest High won the meet with 63 points, followed by Roy with 56 and Clearfield with 43. Other area teams were Viewmont with Timpview tied for seventh place with 20 points, Layton tied with East with 17 points, and Davis tied with Sky View for 20th place with 9 points. Next up for both Layton and Roy, is the Nate Long Invitational, held April 24th and 25th at Skyline High School. On the following weekend teams from Utah and adjoining states for the B.Y.U. The softball program will include three ll different leagues; ages 8 to 9 ($10); Minors grades 3 to 6 ($10) ; debutants grades 7 to 9 ($10). The second and subsequent children within the family may register at a reduced rate. Players will be allowed to keep their jerseys at the end of the season. Registration fees will be accepted from Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at the Sunset City offices 85 West 1800 North.
