She has been in the Air Force eight years and met her husband while stationed at Hill Air Force Base. Scott said he wouldn't mind his wife being transferred, especially if it takes, (hem overseas. their marriage it wont be because his wife is in the military but because he is on the road three to four weeks a month with his job. Greg Racas said he doesnt really mind his wife being in the military and would not mind if she decided to make a career of it. He said her participation in preparedness or mobility tests at the base doesnt really bother him since he is on the road so much. Mobilities or "bag drags as Greg Racas calls them are readiness tests which involve the base military personnel to determine just how long it will take the military to mobilize if needed. ' The drills are periodically conducted. He said because of his previous military experience he understands that when the military needs you they need you and youve signed a contract saying when they call you, you go. The dependent husbands all have had amusing experiences while being termed dependents and indications are the military really hasnt caught on to this phenomenon as yet. Scott Douglas said he is often saluted . instead of his wife when they enter the . base together and Alan Brennan said he has nad a similar incident with the base gate people. He said it was right after he had gotten out of the military and still ' hadnt gotten the proper indentification for his vehicle. Because of this he had to stop at the gate and show his identification. When the guard looked at his ID card Brennan said he exclaimed, Your a dependent? All of the husbands indicated they would like to see their wives get out of the service in the future,, but they also said the possibility of being transferred as long as the appealed to them - , Area June 10, 1981 Boy to Curtis and Danalynn Simmons, 1970 W. 2250 S. He said the government is security for them and they would probably go with the security. Both the Racas s and the Brennans were dependent for several months on only the wifes income from the Air Force while the husbands sought employment after getting out of the service. Several of the husbands said they would like a transfer overseas for their wives, as long as it wasnt a remote tour of duty. A remote tour doesnt allow anyone but the military personnel to go and usually lasts for 12 months. All of the couples indicated their marriages have not had any real effect of their social lives. The three enlisted couples said they mainly have friends who are in the service or recently gotten out so there isnt any real problem. Captain Douglas said the only social strain on their relationship is with some types of parties within the squadron. Often people dont realize she is the one in the military. Scott Douglas said he will sometimes feel funny at a banquet when his wife is in uniform and he is wearing civilian ' clothes.
