By BUSS FULLMER Staff Writer Brent Hancock, the football coach at Clearfield, lays claim to 27 years of playing football, or coaching the game. He had his beginning at Lewis Junior High School of Ogden, and went on to win honors as quarterback of his Ogden High School team. Coach Hancock was recruited to Weber State Junior College and won honors. He transferred to Brigham Young Universifor ty and became a the Cougars. At about this time, Brent was involved in a serious all-sta- te all-leag- semi-start- er automobile accident, and was banged up pretty good. It took a year for his cuts and bruises and broken arm to heal up. Meanwhile he was on the Weber State campus, helping with the coaching chores. Weber State was then in the procolcess of becoming a four-yelege, and Brent transferred back to the Ogden school, where he earned more honors in his role of quarterback of the Wild Cats. ar FIRST JOB Hancocks first job out of college was at Bonneville High School, where he coached the sophomores in 1963. From there, he went on to Wahlquist to coach and win the County championship for three years running. They called him back to Bonneville to assist Larry Neeves for eight years and then he took over the reins for three years at the Laker school. In those three years at Bonneville, Coach Hancocks teams won the Region 1 title twice. Under Hancock, the Lakers lost only three league games in three years. Brent was selected by Weber State Coach Dick Gwinn as an as sistant at the Wild Cat school, but in 1976 lost his job when the administrators fired Gwinn. Coach dary Coach. Brent Hancock is proud of his assistants and confident of the job they are doing at Clearfield High. I want each of my assistants to have aspirations of becoming head coach, said Hancock. My philoosphy is to surround myself with the best possible assistants and move out from there. I am optimistic, continued the coach. We have had lots of time to prepare for this season and now weve got to prove ourselves.
