Show I 4B lakeside Review, Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1981 Sculpting in Metal Is Fulfilling Hobby tv LYNDIA GRAHAM Review Correspondent Working with metals LAYTON has become a fulfilling hobby for a Layton man and it seems that the size of his projects is as varied as his imagination. Rick Stevenson, 444 S. Angel, is part owner and president of J and J ,.? i y Aft f-- Produce but spends much of his relaxing time" working on metal sculptures. Encouraged by a local wood craftsman, Betty Wilcox, Steven- son began to take his hobby seriously and has produced several pieces which he sold and many which he has given to friends. Often he begins with a persons occupation or hobbies and expands on the role until he has a completed project. For example, he made a sculpture for a local doll collector which depicts her sitting in front of several rows of tiny dolls, all made out of metal, and for a secretary friend he has made an office scene complete with wastebaskets, a desk full of clutter, and a secretary tangled up in the phone cord. Often there is a touch of humor in his creations . . . like the detailed outhouses which have tiny paper holders and wood planks for the doors, all made with metal. His largest project is a fountain originally made for Layton City which depicts our Western heritage through wagon wheels, ponds, rocks and flowers. That project took Stevenson nearly all of one summer to complete. However, most of his hand-hel- d sculptures take two to three evenings to make. HIS LARGEST metal sculpture provides a seat for Rick Stevenson. The piece depicts our Western heritage. County Commission Approves Second Computer Request Brenda Jo Buckley of Bountiful has been selected as the 1982 National Epilepsy Poster The Davis County ComFARMINGTON mission has approved a second request for a computer terminal in August. Brenda first began having seizures years ago. She was diagnosed as having Lennox-Gastasyndrome, which in Brendas case was characterized by clusters of two-and-a-h- involuntary movements and periods of loss of awareness. Although this kind of epilepsy is often hard to control, Brenda is now seizure-fre- e on medication and leads a normal, active life. Brenda is a kindergarten student who likes to ride her bicycle and play with her dolls, according to her parents, Lonn and Jeannine Buckley. Shes not worried about having epilepsy," Mrs. Buckley said. In fact, shes always telling people she has epilepsy. Weve tried never to make her epilepsy a negative thing, and shes picked up on that. If there have been any problems because of Brendas disorder, it was the reaction of friends and family to the disorder, her father said. We have felt a little frustration toward people because they dont understand that epilepsy is just a physical problem like many other physical problems people have. We feel letting Brenda get involved as National Poster Child would be a way we can contribute to the changing of peoples reactions and increasing their under- standing." Brenda has two brothers and two sisters, ranging in age from 7 years to 3 months. They felt bad that Brenda had to go through all those seizures at the beginning," her mother recalled, but they know what to do if she has a seizure now. Its been so long since she had one, though, that Im afraid the other kids might forget. Epilepsy is a disorder caused by an abnormal BOUNTIFUL The Roy Recreation .
