Show Page IB Lakeside Review Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1981 Utah Tomatoes Great for Canning , Eating By LYNDiA GRAHAM 2 tsp. pepper Wash and cut up tomatoes. Chop onions, celery, and parsley. Add the vegetables and bay leaves to the tomatoes; cook until celery is tender. Put through a strainer or sieve. Melt butter and slowly stir in flour, thin with a little tomato juice, then add to the boiling soup; stir to keep from scorching. Add salt, sugar, and pepper. (For extra smoothness you can put it through the strainer or sieve again.) Pour into clean jars to 1 inch of top. Seal and process in a water bath 15 minutes. Many local gardeners are also putting away pints and quarts of their harvest for winter suppers and treats. Food just seems to taste better when the whole family has worked together to grow, harvest, and can ripe tomatoes, beans, or any other garden produce. Mrs. White and her daughter Kim do most of the canning and make a variety of products from tomatoes. Both the bride and bridegroom are employed at Williams International and both are attending Weber State College. The bridegroom completed a mission for the LDS Church in Michigan.
