The program, to be held in the ward cultural hall, 338 W. 1800 N., will feature excerpts from Mrs. Richards 259 page book, The Mormon Trail, with Richards, a 77 year-olretired attorney, portraying a 19th century newsman, tagging along the pioneer trail with a party of Mormons, in an effort to get a sensational story for his newspaper. d community-oriente- d, open membership church which welcomes people of all denominational backgrounds. Thirty-seve- n students made it to the final round following preliminaries in English classes. Students who did not have an English class were invited to participate in the finals. Two of this years winners also won last year. Linda Stevens, first place winner, was also first place winner last year. Last years third place winner, Maren Watts, is second place winner this year. Sponsor of the contest is the school newspaper, Talon. All three winners received trophies. CLEARFIELD By correctly spelling the word quiescent, Linda Stevens became the champion speller during Clearfield High Schools Third annual spelling bee. Maren Watts took second place and Paula Kronsted came in third. All three girls are juniors. According to Robert Reed, Enfor the first glish instructor,-word- s round were taken from the Deseret News spelling list. The spelling list for the final round was taken from a combination of Deseret News and school spelling lists. Students were given a three-wee- k period in which to learn the words.
