Show Lakeside Review, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 1983 Skate Club Will Note Anniversary - celebrates gure 3C BOUNTIFUL The Utah Fiits Club Skating 30th anniversary Thursday, Feb. 24 and is having a combination open house and birthday party at the Bountiful Recreation Center to commemorate the event. The program calls for exhibi- tion skating by UFSC members, followed by a cutting of the birthday cake and serving it with other light refreshments. Arrangements are under the direction of Nancy Howard, Bountiful, and Don Foote, Layton. The party is open to the general public at no charge. Exhibition skating will begin at 4:30 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m., with the numbers to consist of both freestyle and ice freesdance routines. Thirty-sityle skaters are scheduled to display their talents and will be skating at several different levels. Some of the better-knowfreestylers who will apare Holly Cook, Bountiful; pear Kenna Bailey and Jon Jackson, x n Centerville; Kathy Searle, Salt Lake City; and Kirsten Novak, Layton. Holly, Kenna, and Kirsten all came home as winners from the Central pacific competition last fall, with Holly placing first and Kenna third in the intermediate ladies division. Both girls recently passed their fourth level figures and novice freestyle tests and now move into the ladies novice division for this years competitions. Jon won first place in the mens novice division at Central Pacific in 1981 and also competed in Pacific Coast later that iyear. Shortly afterwards, he 'withdrew from skating as an active competitor. The overall first place winner in the lightweight category was Gino Maestas with a bench press of 150 pounds and a dead lift of 300 pounds. The middleweight winners were Royal Roberts in third place with 180 pounds bench press and 290 pounds dead lift. In i second place was Earnest Mitchell with lifts of 200 pounds bench press and 300 pounds dead lift. The first place winner was Scott Reeder who lifted 170 pounds bench press and 340 pounds dead lift. In the heavyweight class, Les Fowler took third place with lifts of 170 pounds bench press and 360 pounds dead lift. Second place went to Ray Chavez who bench pressed 210 pounds and dead lifted 380 pounds. John Gallegos was the first place winner with a 240 pound bench press and a 380 pound dead lift.
