Show & September 2001 Carbon and Emery County Sports Guide Deep team could lead Lady Dinos to state championship While even.- - team that plays any sport at Carbon High has a chance for a state crown, there is probably no program that has lietter odds for winning than the Iidy Dinos volleyball squad. We are going to be very good, commented Bruce Bean, head volleyball coach, w hen asked how-wel-l he expected the members to K.rform the day after team night. What makes the Lady Dinos squad so sisrial is depth. On team night, the varsity played the junior varsity and beat the players up pretty good. Then the sopho- mores played the junior varsity and beat the squad quite handily. Finally, the varsity faced the sophomores and won, but it wasn't as big a victory as some people would think. The Carbon team has a lot of talent at ah levels and that will make for a very good season. I told the parents on team night after the scrimmage that there isnt a position on the varsity that isnt being pushed by someone off the other two teams, with the exception of two places, Bean told the Sun Advocate. Those positions are held by Cassie Warburton and Ailese Hopes. Both the young ladies are from last years team ns that took eighth in the state. Warburton was named alongwith the graduated Michelle all-sta- te Watson. The two veteran Lady Dinos are enough for any opposing coach or player to fear, but there is much more. Kim Stevens and Stephanie Cox are the other two returning seniors and they are very good. Other starters will include junior Chelsev Warburton and sophomore Brittany Pollastro. Beyond that, Carbon High could actually field another team and probably be competitive in most 3A games. The youngest members of the group include tw-freshmen who were stand outs at Helper and Mont Harmon junior highs last year. o PICCADILLY tinrri r-n- Morgan Warburton and tell." With the talented experienced Monica Shorts should be playing for their respective junior highs, but the girls skills are such that they will be competing at the high school level this year. This is a fun group to coach, said Bean. I dont believe there is a team we can't play with in the 3A and maybe in the 4A and 5A ranks, either. Bean knows of what he speaks. All summer, many of the girls have gone to one players and the very young members of the volleyball squad back bring home another trophy with 2001 on it to match the one the baseball team earned last spring. o volleyball and basketball camp after another, playing against teams that come from schools three times Carbons size and much of the time they have won. Bean feels that, in 3A competition, the strongest team the Lady Dinos could face would be Morgan, a school with a long history of tough volleyball squads. The Morgan players were the champions last season and have three of the last four w-o- ing them up, the Lady Dinos could 0 u AO'S ii un 7 HOME THE CFJWSHS n crowns. Bean doesnt like to make predictions, but he feels his team very well could be on top of the region at the end of the season, giving the Lady Dinos a good seed in the state tournament. North Sanpete and Delta will be tough," indicated Bean. And Emery is tall and will give everyone trouble. Lehi is not as good in this sport as they are in some of the others.
