Show WEEKLY REFLEX-DA- VIS NEWS JOURNAL, NORTH DAVIS LEADER, JULY 9, 1981 With A Ban Lawton Riata LAYTON Days started bright and early on July 4 with a big bang or rather a series of bangs set off by the Layton Fire Dept, to signal the annual July 4th Celebration had begun THIS E4RLY morning noise was the signal for the Layton Ninth Ward crew to start serving breakfast The winning parade entries were Ogden LDS Institute of Religion, sweepstakes; Miss Kaysvitle City float prepared by the Kaysville Jaycees, first place; Barnes Bank float, second place; Miss Davis County, piepared by Clover Clubs Foods, third and Lay ton 17th Ward's youth float, honorable mention RIBBONS FOR outstanding entries went to Rachael Folk-ma- Twirling Taps, First Southern Baptist of Layton, Layton Fire Dept., Earl and his son, Jared; Layton High cheerleaders, Dav is High cheerleaders, Blue Jazz, Davis County Sheriff Showing Davis Countys beautiful misses was the Clover Club float with young Shae Lyn Stanger show n at the front and Blenda 1 ow first runnerup, left, and Julia koetiz, glaring the center as reigning Davis County royalty. DAVIS ROYALTY LAYTON'S FAIREST ART WINNER of the Letting Laytons inner beauty shine through are members of Riata as Da)s part royalty contingent riding the parade route activities. At the conclusion of the parade, Layton Mayor Lewis G Sheilds officially opened Phase II of the Layton Commons Park. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held in front of 1IADC1?D gcfr COMMONS PARK DEDICATED M " the Heritage Museum SPECIAL GIFST ot honot at this ceremontv were Jav Starkey, retired Lav ton citv parks and recreation direstor and Richard Hunt, recreation director, the man most responsible for the development ol the Layton Commons Paik, as well as manv other attractive parks located in Layton The park was made possible through a matching giant funded bv the BOR Corp 1 he Job and workers hit cd through CETA program the labor that went into the construction and landscapShields ing of the park Mayor piesented Mr Sturkev and his wife, Mary, with a plaque in appreciation ot their eltorts in building the Layton Commons Park.
