By DAVE WIGHAM Every year during the football season each school has what is commonly known as Homecoming. This is the one w'eek a year when the alumni is welcomed back, actually honored, they are always welcome to attend the football game and the dance. school. No matter what school has the most talent these two alw ay s seem to put together an exciting game for their fans. Leading the attack for the Scots is quarterback Darren Cottle who is considered a fine passer. Against Logan he had a couple picked off early in the game but then settled down and threw the ball well The ground game is led by fullback Dalan Buckles who is a power type running back. IN THE early years of this festival it was consi- dered to be an added advantage for the home team. After all they w'ould be playing in front of all those athletes from the school. Some even thought it was another reason that the hometeam would win. I mean really it was Homecoming for heaven sake. How dare they loose? ex-gre- at TAKING A closer look at this Homecoming thing though is it really an advantage to the home team. Some think just the opposite. I really believe it is to the advantage of the team coming in to play. They build it up all week. The prospect of spoiling some other schools Homecoming activity by winning the football games seems to excite teams. It puts all the pressure on the home team noted one coach. ONE interesting matchup will be the kick return artists CONSIDER THE facts this season alone. Woods Cross lost their Homecoming game to Highland. Bountiful lost theirs a week ago to Viewmont. Layton was beaten by Roy last week. The only one that won was Davis, and they only won by a single point after they had run away from all their other opponents. Viewmont plays their. Homecoming game this week against South while Clearfields is in a week or so. SOME COACHES note that on the Friday of the game there is so much activity going on that their players dont concentrate on the game. First they have a three hour assembly in the morning, then the parade in the afternoon. I think some of them are more concerned with their date for the dance Saturday than they are with the football game. No matter what you may feel about the subject the facts are still right in front of you. Very few schools win Homecoming football games. And most teams I talked too love to ruin it for other teams, and they feel the pressure on the hometeam. ITS A great idea but if youre alumni dont expect your school to win. Womans With their KAYSVILLE two wins last week the Darts sit alone on top of the standings but a slip this Friday against Ben Lomond could sendthe race into a mad chase . DAVIS IS 0 in region play g but they dont have much 2-- brea-thin- room as four other schools are right behind them records. One of those with clubs is this weeks opponents. Speaking of breathing room the Darts had very little in their win Saturday over a very stubborn Box Elder club. Playing before a large homecoming crowd the Darts almost gave away the game on a mishandled punt late in the contest. However they avoided the bullet and came away with a 2 win. 13-1- UP TILL that game with the a 36 yard touchdown. Ben Lomond, which won on Tuesday, saw Logan pile up 21 points in the first period to completely bury them. The Scots played even during the second half but by intermission this game was over. took it over from the ten. Box Elder then scored a couple of times and heading into the final period the Darts were behind Bees the Davis eleven had been blowing by people with their famed double wing. On Tuesday they had little trouble in downing Ogden and in preseason action they had bulldozed past their opponents. The Dart defense set up their first score on Saturday by recovering a fumble on the Bees 20 yard line. Several plays later fullback Lance Hill 12-- IN THE final period though the Darts came to life with Brent Hatch leading the parade. Brent made a great catch of a Lynn Lloyd pass and then the next play he scooted around left end untouched for THE DARTS are looking for the region title, the Scots want to stay close in that championship race. A win for Davis would put some space between them and the rest of the field while a loss would pull them down into the heap. Look for a close encounter with the Darts winning by 7. Brent Hatch has returned a couple of kicks for scores this year and Ben Lomond has Blake Johnson who returned a Logan kickofl 95 yards for a touchdown. If nothing else was established last week the Darts showed they have more offensive weapons than just Hatch. Brent is a great runner but he'll be the first to admit that Keith McNally, Lance Hill and Lynn L.loyd are just as big in the offense as he is All four play ed well in their two wins. The line, led by J.D. Ward, is getting better with game experience. 96 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lane Call, has been selected to play in the orchestra. Charlene plays the violin. But its something you never think about when youre well. So with even a minor illness, many people end up at the hospital Emergency Department because they dont know a doctor to call. Emergency Department, of course, will ever refuse to treat your common cold. But Emergency Departments are not meant to replace personal physicians or provide you with the same kinds of services. Thats why Davis North Medical Center has developed the Physician Information Service. Its a way for new residents, and others without a personal physician, to easily locate a doctor in the specialty they need, convenient to their home or place of work. There is no charge for this service. Finding a personal physician before youre sick makes good sense for many No reasons. The doctor can get to know you and your medical history and you have the opportunity to talk with the physician to make sure you feel comfortable with him or her. Regular checkups can reveal hidden medical problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure or anemia that often are present but have no symptoms. And should you become ill or have an accident, your physician will be better prepared to offer treatment with knowledge of your medical background. If you dont have a personal physician now, dont wait until youre sick to find one. Call the Physician Information Service offered by Davis North Medical Center.
