Named Career Woman Of Graves Receives Band Northern District Scholarship Davis High School senior, CLEARFIELD Marianne O. Gault, representing the Lakeview Business and Professional Womens Club of Clearfield, has been named scholarship to Weber State College. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Graves of 852 East Shannon Road, Kay Career Woman of the Utah MARY IS the first bassoonist in the Davis High Band and orchestra, a high honor student, a member of the Foreign Language Club, andfin- a teachers aide. She was the alist in the recent Miss Utah IOJD competition and is chaplain of Bethel 15, Clearfield State Federation of Business and Professional Womens Clubs, Inc. The northern district encompasses clubs from Clearfield, Ogden, Morgan, Brigham City, Tremonton and Logan. MRS. GAULT participated with six other young women at the northern district meeting held April 12 at the Holiday Inn in Ogden. Judging was based on the candidates career achievements and ability to project an image reflecting the role of todays young woman in society. Included was a five minute speech oh the topic International Order of Job's Daughters. She is also a Lagoon employee. Education has a high prior- ity with members of the Graves family. Both parents graduated from San Jose State College in California. Marys mother, Pat, received her masters in education from USU Yesterdays Achievements Tomorrows Aspirations. Mrs. Gault will represent the northern district at the Utah State Federations i EMPLOYED by the Weber County School District, she is a resource teacher working with students with learning disabilities and behavioral 'v A NEW TREE handicaps. ' ,v - r - She is a member of the League of Women Voters and the Sierra Club. She resides in Ogden with her husband, Ron Gault, and is a daughter of Mrs. Eric O. Olafson, also of Ogden. Students at Davis High School along with their teacher planted a new tree in honor of Arbor Day. All schools throughout the district were asked to do the same to commemorate the holiday. Longhorn Roundup By NEAL COPPERMAN The school season is coming to an end, and new officers and cheerleaders are being elected. Our new cheerleaders are Melissa Gutierrez, Brandi Hart, Dayna Huffaker, Adrianne Pearson, Yvie Rios, and Shauna Valentine. Our new pep club officers haVe also' been elected.' They are Mechelle Pollard, president; Bonnie Taylor, vice president; and Sharilynn Gowers, secretary. IN THE sports department, our track team returned from their meets with the team taking first place. In the 110 meters hurdles, Doug Tepe took second and David Adams took fourth. In the 100 meter dash Mike Poulson took fourth and in the long jump, Darrell Richards took second and Mike Poulson took fourth. In the 1600 meter run, we dominated the places with Allen Montoya in first; Gleason Sweeney in second; and Mark Trujillo in fourth. three first places in the 400 meter relay, with a team made up of Tim Harrington, Mike Joos, Daniel Sheldon and Art Marakot; in the 200 meter dash, thanks to Art Marokat and in the shot put, thanks to Steve Hash. In second place we had Randy Lewis who ran the 400 meter dash and Doug In the 400 meter dash Art Lopez took third and in the 400 meter relay a team consisting of Arnel Cruz, Doug Tepe, David Adams and Darrell Richards took second. We came in first in the shot put with Doug Tepes throw, and also came in first and second in the discus thanks to Cliff Hilliard and Dan Steele. In the 800 meter run Jack Berger took second and Bill Terry took third ; and in the 200 meter dash Randy Thompson took fourth. We took first in both the medley relay and the 1600 meter relay. Pierce, Lyle Morse; Tevor Thursam, and Terry Kealama-ki- a who ran in the 1600 meter relay. FOR THIRD place we had RickyThomas who ran the 100 meter dash and Paul Bauer who ran the 800 meter run. Steve Hash took fourth in the high jump. The track athletes of the week are Bill Terry, Cliff Hilliard and Art Morakot. THE MEDLEY team consisted of Arnel Cruz, David Adams, Art Lopez and Tony Markham. The 1600 team was Allen Montoya, James Price, Bill Terry and Jack Berger. In another victory, Erik John- ston, German Reyes and David Griswold took first, second and fourth in the high jump. Our eighth and seventh grade track teams came in OUR GIRLS teams have been doing well also. Our team just took second in their track meet. Our winners were Vicky Fields, who took first in shot put; Sandy Scott and Rosalind Our Steed. The Younguns Held Annual Spring Concert The Younguns, a group ot young entertainers from Davis County, held their annual spring concert on Wednesday, April 30. and hosted a capacity audience. Some of these performances include the televised March of Dimes the Festival of Trees in the Salt Palace, performances at the Lagoon Opera House and at Salt Lake Citys Lion House.
