DUCK WAS drafted by the New Orleans Jazz on the fifth round of the 1978 college draft, but did not play in the NBA last year. He played for Reno in the Western League last season, where he averaged 13.2 points per game during the regular season, and 21.7 ppg in the WBA playoffs. Jazz General Manager Frank Layden said, We saw Duck play in the California Summer Pro League a few weeks ago, and he was very impressive. He came into our camp and played very well. I think he can help our team this year. I KNOW Coach Nissalke was very excited with the manner in which Duck conducted himself on both ends of the floor. . Williams had a four year career scoring average of 12.5 points per game at Notre Dame. The Washington, D.C. native, ranks sixth on the all-tim- Irish scoring list. e I FEEL great about sign- ing with the Jazz, Williams said. "Things didnt work out for me last year, but I didnt give up. But Davis County bow hunters are going to have to know how to scout them before they can shoot them. ALLAN HASH, Davis County conservation officer, said the bow hunt for deer opens in this area Aug. 18 and runs through Sept. 3. In the meantime, he said, prospective bow hunters should go into the hills on several occasions and scout the area. Know where the deer are and get to know their habits, if possible, he said. THERE IS an abundance of deer all along the Wasatch Front in Davis County that can provide the archer with some exciting hunting if the archer will just take the time to scout the deer in advance. Mr. Hash said during a recent trip up Farmington Canyon he spotted 23 deer, 19 of them were bucks and three of them were of the trophy case class, grb MINI SCHOOL 5 Yr. They were the only two to come away with anything for the county although many others part- icipated BOB SMITH and Troy Garner combined their talents in winning the elite event. At first they wanted to play in the 18 doubles division, both of them are under that age, but after watching some of the players in that division warm up they decided to go up a division. We went to register and some of the players were hitting balls on the court. They were bad and we voted to go up to the 21 division. Later in the 18 doubles there were some great players so I guess we just saw the bottom of the crop, noted Smith. THESE TWO make for an interesting combination since during the high school season they are fierce enemies. Bob played number two singles for the Bountiful High tennis team while Troy .was number two for Viewmont. They never played each other since Bob was away on a trip the day they would have met. In the region meet, Troy was seeded number three but in his own words he lucked out and won the title helping the Vikings win their first place team trophy. enrollment 7 nament and got to the semifinals but had to default because he couldnt get off work. NORTH DALLAS Forty was billed as one sports movie that had authentic game action. The producers even gave added bonuses to the athletes if the action seemed realistic. The action wasnt that bad, the main problem was that there was hardly any action. At least not on the football field. The story involves a six year veteran receiver played by Nick Nolte of The Deep fame, and singer turned actor Mac Davis who plays the bigtime quarterback for the club. FINALLY THE management gets to Nolte and gets him to retire from the club through the use of a private investigator. Trouble is no one in the audience feels sorry for him, in fact you get the impression that he is better off. If you have a picture in your mind about how wholesome and cleancut the professional football players are, then dont go see the nightmare. If you think of them as drug users who swear every other word and do anything dirty in the game they can get away with, then this movie is for you. Navigating under water is heavy exertion.
