Those By DONETA M. GATHERUM 775-197- Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Shook have returned home after enjoying a vacation trip to Idaho and Oregon. On May 28, they attended the wedding reception of Mrs. Shooks nephew, Guy Horting and Defiree Madsen. The wedding was in who traveled to California with Mrs. Dehning were Mr and Mrs. Robert Cottle of Mrs. Ted Cottle of Layton and children, Carolee, Charlyn and Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Shields of Granger and their children, Lance, Bradley and Lisa; Mr and Mrs. Clyde Shaw of West Jordan and their children, Brent and Cindj Mrs Dehnings brother and Shooks brother, Robert Horting and his family in Idaho. Another Eagle, brother, Tom and his family live in Boise. Mr. and Mrs. Shook enjoyed visiting in their home. Mrs. Shook's mother, Mrs. Guy Horting, lives in Jerome. was Albany, Oregon another stop for Mr. and Mrs. Shook. They were happy to see their daughter, Julie and her husband, David Clark. Former Layton residents, Harold Mr. and Mrs. Williams and their daughter, Debbie who now live in Oregon City were happy to see Mr. and Mrs. Shook. They also saw Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth first place winner in the Pioneer Village quilt contest held at Lagoon Resort in Farmington. MRS. Brimhall won the cash award in addition io honorable mention which netted her an additional $25 prize. The contest was open to the public and entries had to be in by May 22. them together and possibly a month to quilt it. It is all double quilted which she does on all the quilts she makes. sew' $600 Mrs. Brimhall entered eight large quilts and two baby quilts. There were over 60 entries in the contest. OTHER wdnners were Marie H. Johnson, Pleasant Grove, Utah. She won with her maple leaf pattern and third place Went to Claire C. Field of Farmington, with her string quilt pattern. Mrs. Brimhalls prize winning quilt was the broken star pattern in a variety of colors. Her quilt that won honorable mention was grandmother's flow'er garden pattern. THE CONTEST will be an annual contest, knowm as The Pioneer Village Quilt Contest and Display ot Antique Quilts, sponsored by the Lagoon Corporation. The quilts will be on display all summer at the Dern Carriage SHE HAS made eight quilts in the broken star pattern, in different color combinations and she thinks this one was the prettiest of them all. Fach quilt she entered w'as a different pattern. She is somewhat reluctant to part Wlth it, but it becomes the property of Pioneer Village and will go into their permanent quilt display of antique quilts, however she will get the one back that she won honorable mention prize. MRS. Brimhall began her career at a very young age. Her mother taught her to quilt at home. She used to have a quilt on the quilting frames at their home out on the front law'n under a big locust tree. She recalls that she was about 17 and that was her first experience of trying to quilt. Twenty-seveyears ago, she started making quilts for and children her grandchildren, which has totaled 43 m all, with 21 of them being for her grandchildren quilt-makin- g n Kaysville m 1965 from I ayton where they had lived for six years previous. MRS. Brimhall was born in Manard, Idaho and educated in the schools at Wendell, Idaho. She attended the Gooding College at Gooding, Idaho for one year. She has fulfilled a LDS Mission to the Fast Central States Mission Having been an active member of her church, she has served as Primary president once, Relief Society president twice and MIA president three times. SHE HAS been a devoted mother and housewife and enjoyed her roll as a mother and grandmother, keeping a tidy and neat home. Mrs. Brimhall loves her community and friends and is loved and admired as well as respected by all who know her. SHE AND her husband are active in their church or serving in the Kaysville Ninth 1 DS Ward Bishopric and is principal of the Crestview layton.
