FELLER Receives BUSINESS AWARD Scholarship To Utah Tech Lafayette L. Feller, a student at Clearfield High School, has been awarded a scholarship to attend Utah Technical College at Provo. IS the son of Emma M. Florence and will major in drafting and design technology. LaFAYETTE Tractor Twisting On Tues. May 18, a tractor driving contest was conducted by the Plain City Dairy Days. FFA chapters as well as many 4H clubs were present. There were sixteen persons participating in this contest. Clearfield Chapter was represented by Richard Martin and Kevin Birt. THE FIRST test was a written examination consisting of 50 questions. They then had to drive a tractor with a manure spreader on the back a very difficult course. Out of sixteen participants Clearfield Chapters representative Kevin Birt won first place with Richard Martin taking fifth. Congratulations for a job very well done. ALSO ON May 19, Clearfield chapter held there closing social for this year. The juniors and seniors challenged the sophomores to softball game, everybody had a really good time with the sophomores winning After the softball game the new FFA officers for 7 were installed. Mr. Adams has been PBL vice president, second place winner in Mr. Future Business Teacher and wrote Gold Chapter Merit of Award 1st place in the State PBL academic contest, scholarship freshman year, 1st place in tennis in intramural competition. HE IS married to the former Denise Thompson and they have two daughters. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Adams. Mr. Adams lives at 1186 E. Gentile, Layton. Ninth Grade Holds Week At Central The ninth grade week at Central Davis Junior High was held May 17-2- The activities that were and planned were tennis shoes day which was held on a Wed., a Purple and White day which was held on Thurs., a Student Government day, and a Roller Skating Party. The party was planned for Wednesday, May 19, at the Classic Roller Skattee-shir- ts ing Rink in Ogden. THAT SAME night, Ce- ntrals Concert Chbir and Conatory Swingers participated in a performance at North Layton Junior High. Almost every school in the district was there to represent their fellow students in singing groups. ON MAY department 20 the music presented another festival where Mr. Hill, the singing director, presented certificates to the participants for this year. The ninth grade farewell dance was held on May 21 and there was good participation. THE FAREWELL exercises were held May 25 to help end a complete year. Kaysville 5th Graders Enjoy Local Field Trip Recently the fifth grade boys and girls of Kaysville Elementary School took a field trip to Alden Burtons fruit orchards at 49 No. Mountain Rd Fruit Heights. There, Mr. Burton took the orchards. He showed them the process of budding, fertilizing and picking of the cherries. THEY ALSO learned about beekeeping from Dean Coonradt and Charlie Parkin. Mrs. Glen Manning showed the children how to pick, bottle and weigh peaches. Next, Mr. Dale Jost showed the boys and girls the process of brining, bottling, boxing and shipping of the cherries at the Rock Loft. AFTER THAT everyone hiked up the mountainside where they were given by Mrs. Delores Burton (the Kaysville Elem. School cook) and her lunches prepared staff. They roasted hot dogs and marshallows on the propane heaters. They also drank special punch made of cherry juice and Hawaiian Punch furnished by Mr. Burton. EVERYONE enjoyed the field trip with only two (2) bee stings, jd Clearfield Students Win Honors Three local Clearfield students will receive as- sociate degrees in mechanical arts from Utah Technical College in Salt Lake City. THEY ARE Paul A. Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen a Taylor, Reed Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Olsen and Kim Smurthwaite, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Smurth- waite.
