Show Page Six - The Pyramid - October 6, 1999 Emery downs Hawks at region by Doug Johnson - With a 42-1- 4 CASTLE DALE loss at Emery, the North Sanpete Hawks football team has made it tough for itself in the state playoff picture. Emery meanwhile solidified its number three ranking in 3A and set up a showdown in two weeks with Delta to decide first place in Region 8. The North Sanpete defense allowed one touchdown in each of the first three quarters, but Emery poured on the heat in the fourth, doubling its score with three more touchdowns. Lady Hawks win 5th straight Region 8 title MT. PLEASAN- T- The North Sanpete Lady Hawk tennis team captured its fifth straight Region Eight championship and finished in sixth place at state. Team scores at Region were North Sanpete, 9; Delta and Emery, 4; and Richfield, 2.5. Team scores at state were, Dixie 24; Ogden, 20; Pine View, 10 Judge Memorial, 9; Park City, 9. North Sanpete, 5; Snow Canyon, 4; Morgan, Lehi, Tooele, and Uintah, 1. At first singles Wendy Can-showe- great determination in the first round match by defeating Bernie Davis, Emery, She then met Lisa Smith, Delta, in the championship. Wendy had been defeated twice by Delta during league play, but the match was as intense. The first round saw them defeat Bridget and Gwendolynn Coyne, semi-fina- ls 0, m 5-- Snow falls to top ranked UVSC, SLCC by Ken Beazer SALT LAKE CIT- Y- Snow Colleges volleyball team em- barked upon the most difficult road trip of the season, traveling to play Utah Valley State College (UVSC) and Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). In terms of distance, the trip to the Wasatch Front is as simple as it gets. However, in terms of the two opponents strength and national rankings, there is no other trip in the nation that compares. On Sept. 30, the Lady Badgers traveled to Orem to battle the number seven ranked Lady Wolverines. Coach Les Colles and his squad played UVSC earlier this season, but that was before the Lady Wolverines added two top players to the roster, putting them among the National Junior College Athletic Associations elite. In spite of the odds. Snow battled UVSC to the end, eventually losing in three straight, 15-The Lady Badgand ers put themselves in position to win two games, but failed to take advantage. No rest for the weary as the Lady Badgers traveled to Salt Lake City the following day to d face the nations team, SLCC. The Lady Bruins are making a strong bid to dethrone College of Southern Idaho from their six- 15-- 4, year national dominance and wasted little time sending a strong message to Snow, handing the Lady Badgers a decisive, 15-- 3, 15-- 4 and 15-- 5 loss. Snow is still looking for a South Western Athletic Conference victory this week as they travel to Price to battle College of Eastern Utah on Thursday Oct. 7, then return to host Dixie College at 5:00 p.m. in Snow Colleges Activity Center.
