Show December 24, 1997 - The Pyramid - Page Three Snow music department receives National Music Assn membership by Dean ODriscoll EPHRAIM Snow College Music Department was recently welcomed as an associate member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). This culminates a year-lon- g accreditation process in which all aspects of the music program at Snow were examined and compared to national standards. A two-yecollege music department may be granted membership in NASM if its curricula and resources are equivalent to the first two years of a NASM acfour-yecredited institution. This means that Snow College meets national standards for four-yeschools. Vance E. Larsen, Snow College director of bands and music, stated, "This is a major comer for us to turn." He continues, "For someone who is a serious music student. Snow is a viable option." This appears to be true, since Snows department is the, music only accredited two-yeunit in the state of Utah. ar ar ar ar The mind of man is capable of anything-beca- use everything is in it, all of the past as all the future. Joseph Conrad With a couple thousand two-yeschools to choose from, Snow College is one of only 21 junior colleges in the nation that are NASM members. "We want Snow to be the best experience they can get, on top of that, we are a bargain," explained Larsen. Due to the credibility of Snow College and their music department, music majors who attend Snow can look forward to easier transfers to any of the four-yemusic programs in the state. '"The validation of things we have been saying about our department will be a bonus," Larsen commented. NASM is the accrediting agency for all of the four-yemusic departments in Utah. ar ANNEXE LOFE ar ar Myron Stewart celebrates 80 years Thanksgiving Day MT.
