Calendars should be noted of the change. Scholarships A new program aimed at female students interested in math and science is being offered by the University of Utah. The Access program begins summer quarter and will introduce students to the research and laboratory techniques needed in the first year of study at the University. All access students receive a $2500 stipend for their first year of study. Contact Elise Hanson for an application. USA Today is offering a $2500 scholarship to 20 students who have achieved an outstanding original academic or community service endeavor. Factors considered by the judges include a nominees academic record, creativity, leadership, and independent scholarly or artistic work. Students who have done this should contact Mrs. Hanson to be considered for a nomination. Application dead Technology is having a scholarship competition on March 22. Students will be given a general intelligence test. The student with the highest score will receive a $1000 tuition waiver. The next two top scores will receive a $750 tuition waiv er. These awards can be used in addition to the individual high school award. To qualify for the high school scholarship the student must have a 3.3 GPA, have good citizenship, and show positive leadership qualities. One $500 scholarship will be awarded per Utah high school. Application deadline is April 1. Utah Society of Professional Engineers is offering three different $1000 scholarships to students having a Utah high school diploma or being a Utah high school senior. are awarded Scholarships strictly on the basis of achievement. They need to have one parent be employed by a public school district or collegeuniversity. Students need to have a "B" average and at least a 23 on the ACT. Application deadline is Feb. 28. Dixie College has half and full tuition awards available for students with high enough 4 GPAs. A student with a cumulative GPA is guaranteed a award, and a student with a 3.75-4.- 0 cumulative GPA is guaranteed a award. There are also leadership and departmental scholarships available. Students must apply by March 1. The University of Utah has two scholarships available for Political Science majors. Both the Maurice Warshaw Scholarship and the J.D. Williams Scholarship have similar requirements. The recipient must be a fulltime student (12-1- 8 quarter hours) at the University; maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA; must be a political science major; take one political science course per quarter; and have a minimum of 12 quarter credit in political science courses after three quarters. The 1997 State Science Talent Search gives high school seniors and juniors an opportunity to compete for trips and scholarships based upon their science research.
