The present city council was caught in a period of transition, or simply put, "a learning curve." Were they being led by the mayor and recorder thinking the information they received was correct? After one year, this present city council should take charge of the city and make the mayor and recorder quit making the same old mistakes over and over again. Since 1989 the residents of work Aspen Village have tried to with city government. The resident owners of Aspen Village .do not want this subdivision which could be a beautiful area and showplace for the city, turned into a "slum." During this time, we faced some serious challenges and had to make some decisions that were very hard. Passing the bond for the building program was a major hurdle and one that was truly needed in this district. Personnel problems are always controversial and we dealt with several that made all of us lose a lot of sleep before they were resolved. We appreciated the support and input we received from the community. I have had the opportunity to serve with some tremendous people, Allan Hall, Ann Deuel, Ron Ivory, Bruce Irons and Frank Cook. They are all dedicated people who want the best for the young people of our district. We also have choice administrators and it has been a privilege to work with them and get to know them. Superintendents Dennis Mower and Brent Thome are both great leaders. Karen Kowalski, Jim Thornton, Darrin Johansen, Claudia Christensen, and the entire district office staff are all dedicated and supportive. I know my predecessor on the board very well. John McKay is a real gentle giant and will be a great asset to this district. I wish both he and Katie the very best and hope their service will be as rewarding as mine has been. There have been times of frustration as a school board member. However, the many friends Ive made in the district and the great education Ive received as a result of serving, has made it so worthwhile. concerned citizen Every should be allowed to have this great experience.
