Sanpete folks enjoy the outdoors. A partial list of outdoor activities for this time of year is: camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, boating, and one of my favorites, chaise lounging. Its great to get out and enjoy the summer season whatever the activity may be. Because we all have to eat whether were at home or on the mountain, outdoor cooking has developed into an important skill here in Sanpete. Dutch oven cooking devotees are a large group. Ive seen some terrific meals come out of those black pots. Red meat, white meat, poultry, bread and scones, and heavenly cakes and cobblers are all done in the ovens. Ive had some background with cooking Dutch, but still consider myself a novice. My experience has taught me that there is essential equipment for this type of cooking. It includes: a shovel (for arranging fire and coals), leather gloves (to avoid 2nd degree burns), "Dutch uncle" (for lifting lids and ovens) and newspaper (for wiping out ovens). Last Friday night about 1:30 a.m. I got it into my head that I wanted to do a Dutch oven on Saturday. I wanted to try something I hadnt done before. I fired up the computer and logged onto the internet. I did some browsing and scored the recipe which follows below. It was thrown out to the world by Jeff Glaze of Explorer Post 477 sponsored by Kingswood United Methodist Church in the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts. The recipe is super easy. I tried it. I liked it. projects. The possibilities are limitless! As the song beckons, "Lets be neighbors; let be friends!" Plan exciting events for your area. Invite the community to attend. Be sure to also participate in the festivities planned by others throughout die state. Celebrate in Countless ways.
