The question on everyones lips to me is, "Are you ready for Christmas?" I often answer, "Its going to come whether Im ready or not." I know what people mean by the question. (Im not as dumb as everyone says I am.) People want to know if Ive done all my shopping. Do I have gifts purchased for everyone on my list? I seldom know whether Im done with my shopping or not. I seem to keep buying stuff right up until the last minute. I buy things without even having anyone in mind for the items. I stick bags and boxes in dozens of different places over the weeks leading up to Christmas. I invariably forget that I even bought some things. Other things which I have hidden end up being hidden from myself. I cant find gifts that I know I have somewhere. The "ready for Christmas?" question has given me some pause this year. After all the hassle of preparation for gift giving and helping Santa, the commercial side of Christmas is often overdone in our family. What about the other aspects of being ready for Christmas? The commemoration of Jesus Christs birth is the "reason for the season" as they say. Despite what some people may say, Sanpete is a Christian county. Other than some international students at Snow College (who largely have values similar to anyone else in the county) Im personally unaware of any Sanpete residents who are not part of the Christian world. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Names in the Bible were given to children with purpose. The definition was a very important part of what the child would become. They always carried a meaning to the nation of Israel, ts Gods people. We can see that the coming One Isaiah spoke of was to be a very special person. Just a glance at these names give us some very startling information. This special person, Jesus, is to be known as the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father. Most people do see Jesus as the Son of God but there is usually a problem recognizing Him as Isaiah described Him. Jesus really is the "Mighty God". If we do not honor Him as such we do not honor Him at all. for who He really is, "the May this be the year we see Jesus " words do not just state These Father. When the members of the Bell Choir first assembled it was the opportunity to do something different, make some sounds, play some carols, but the casual tunes of that first Christmas played by acquaintances became music played by friends. Out of diversity came the union of souls by a common interest pursued commonly. As we listen to the carols of this season, notes have become music to serenade not just us but our Savior as well. As a people of diversity in this small community, it is our common vision of the birth in Bethlehem of our Savior, Jesus Christ, which an allow us to share in the common goal of which the Heavenly Host sang two thousand years ago: Glory to God and on Earth Peace!
