TAX TIPS FOR INDIVIDUALS We have been informed in an IRS newsletter that, unfortunately, there will be many refund delays The IRS, due to "a growing problem of fradulent and questionable refund claims" is looking at refund claims much more closely, which results in delays in their payment of refunds These delays can be as much as eight weeks after the IRS reviews your re turn and sends a notice that your re fund will be delayed They are particularly targeting the Earned Income Credit Last year, some claimed children which did not exist and then had their refund sent to a post office box where they couldn't be traced This year the IRS is individuals checking every social security number to make sure they are valid before pay ing any refunds The IRS will not disclose their pro cedures for screening returns so that "we do not give those attempting to defraud the government a blue print for avoiding the screens and filters we're using to identify questionable refund claims." If you receive a notice (Notice CR26) that the IRS is reviewing your return, it is not necessary to call them They Bob and Evelyn with Planned Savings Plus. will either verify your information based on their previous data and send your refund or send a subsesquent notice if you are selected for examination Also, as we have reported previously, if a portion of your refund is due to the Earned Income Credit, you cannot have a direct deposit of that part of your refund. It will be later sent by a check The IRS hopes to make "programming changes" that will allow both portions to be direct deposited in 1996 Finally, those taxpayers who have a tax liability for 1994 should not send the payment voucher and payment to San Francisco, CA You need to send your return, payment and payment voucher to Ogden, UT, unless your re turn was a 1 040PC or electronic filing Please call for details or schedule no cost initial appointment. a Planned Savings Plus Rates .. .,,iv v vi:. teacher.
