Show Page Eight - The Pyramid December 14, 1994 -- County sets 95 budget hearing by Bruce Jennings MANTI At its Dec. 7 meeting, the Sanpete County Commission approved a tentative 1995 budget based on the current tax rate. ; That doesnt mean, however, that there wont be an increase in property taxes about a year from now, since the county isnt the only taxing unit. Other entities assess taxes, too, among them the two school districts. ; Additionally, some properties have increased in market value because of reappraisal ?nd population growth. on-goi- The reappraisal will involve Ephraim and Manti in 1995, among others, according to County Assessor Steve Kjar. He Said his office had reappraised fhe northern part of the county in 1994. The required public hearing bn the 1995 budget will be held in the commission chambers of the courthouse on Dec. 20 at 11 a.m., and the commission expects to approve it at 1 p.m. Commissioner Eddie Cox and Auditor Jay Alder have headed the 'budget committee and obtained input from department heads and other people in the process. A major concern has been $150,000 approximate cost of defending state prisoners which the county may have to pay. If the State Legislature lifts that burden from the countys shoulders next month, that action could make a huge difference in 1995 and other future years. In addition to the new budget, numerous other matters were addressed during the long day. Six separate requests were made for tax relief which will require an examination of property records before a decision can be made. The desirability of Aspen , Hills subdivision lots was much in evidence as the commission approved the sale of several lots Donald acquired in tax sales. Peterson purchased two lots, David J. Rose, four, and Roger Redmond, one. Approved was Max Ottens request for some Sterling area property, and requests for public hearings for zoning changes from Rolf Dean and Jay Barlow. Expenditures were also approved for purchase of a computer terminal and two Ford automobiles to replace two others with over 100,000 miles. The cars will cost $16,539 and will come out of the 1995 law enforcement budget in a deal that enabled the county to take advantage of a special Ford sales program. The agreement between the city and Allred was hammered out at a public meeting on Nov. 15 and laid out details of getting services installed in the expanded portion of the trailer park. Basically, the agreement will allow the city to furnish materials and oversee installation, and Allred will install the services and repay the city for the materials. There had been some controversy over whether people really wanted the park expanded, but no one present objected.
