The award, naming the North Sanpete team, "Fourth Largest New Program," was presented to N.S. director KathiJo Hansen, by Larry H. Miller, owner ,pf the Utah Jazz, t The top three new largest programs included, Montana State, first; Cheyenne, Wyo. Youth Basketball, second, and Price, third. All three largest programs incorporated existing basketball organizations into the Junior Jazz affiliation. North Sanpete youth have participated in Snow Colleges basketball program, but this was the first year for the North Sanpete program. Three hundred and twenty three girls and boys participated. According to Ms. Hansen, there were six girls teams, eight seventh and eighth grade boys teams; nine fifth and sixth grade boys teams, and eight third and fourth grade boys teams. Youth from Moroni, Mt. Pleasant, Fairview, Spring City and Fountain Green participated in the Junior Jazz program. A member of the House of Representatives and a U.S. Senator for 18 years, McGovern was the 1972 Democratic presidential nominee. His 1984 bid for the White House won him the respect of Democrats and Republicans. A foreign policy scholar and long-tim- e champion of the American farmer, McGovern' was named by President Kennedy as the first director of the Food for Peace Program in I960. The programs worldwide success helped propel him to the Senate in 1962. While in the Senate he served on the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Virtually all major pieces of farm legislation during his Senate term bear his mark.
