Show I Tw age Sanpete - Shopper May 15, IPS") Wv St Weed control urged MANT- I- "The County Weed Board has made a tour of Sanpete County, reports County Commissioner Keller Christenson, and they were appalled at the spread of Musk Thistle in the county. Christenson went on to say the County Weed Board is determined to comply with the new Noxious Weed Law. During the 1985 legislature session the 1971 Noxious Weed Law was amended. It is hoped the changes in the law will improve the noxious weed programs in the counties. The Sanpete County Weed Control Board is comprised of eight members with County Commissioner Keller Christenson, the chairman. David Peel is the County Weed Supervisor. It is his responsibility to work with land owners to control noxious weeds. Private property owners are responsible for the control of noxious weeds on their property. An owner or person in possession of property who fails to take action to control or prevent the spread of noxious weeds, after being notified of the noxious weed problem on his property by the county, is maintaining a public nuisance. If the owner or person in possession of the property fails to take action to control the weeds within five working days after the property is declared a public nuisance, the county may, after reasonable notification, enter the property and perform any work necessary to control the weeds. The land owner does have the right to appeal this action. Any expenses incurred by the county in controlling the weeds on private property must be paid to the county within 90 days or the charges will become a lien upon the property and FK issIssK. -. the control methods. County Weed Supervisor David Peel said the county has a sprayer that can be loaded in back of a pickup, truck, trailer, etc. and used to spray noxious weeds. There is a deposit required which will be returned when the sprayer is delivered to the county shop without damage. Other members of the Sanpete County Weed Board are: Leo Devon Fairview; Gillespie, Mikkelson, Ft. Green; Burt Seely, Mt. Pleasant; Charles Peterson, Spring City; Douglas Olsen, Ephraim; Merrill Cox, Manti; Stanley Voorhees, Manti; and Harry Kimera, Gunnison. Thomas Reeve serves as secretary to the board.
