PLEASAN- T- Only six patrons attended a special meeting May 9 to plan strategy for fighting mandatory parallel parking on SR-11the city's Main Street. Under the direction of Scott Stewart, former president of the Chamber of Commerce and head of the Chamber Economic Development Committee, the meeting is the first of several to inform residents and prepare for a state hearing on the matter sometime in June. Stewart reported that he had been Christy Johansen, center, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Johansen, Mt. But the boys didnt give in without a fight and boys pushed a write-icampaign for Darren Walker and Bryant Jorgensen. Pleasant Elementary Dance Revue has been set for Friday, May 31 at 7 p.m. The event will be held on the North Sanpete High School football field if the weather permits. Otherwise, it will be held in the NS gym. Following the dance the Parent-Teacher- s Association is planning a bake sale. A drawing on a quilt will also be held. Commander McCune conducted the evenings business meeting where sponsorship of a food booth at the July 4 celebration was discussed and a committee appointed by Chairman Lyle Klotz; Alena Krouth, Miss Sanpete was introduced and thanked for her help during the last Poppy Day sale, and awards were presented to Commander McCune and Quartermaster Earl Ursenbach for their efforts in bringing in new members. Commander Leffert said the Mt. Pleasant post this year has 131 percent of last years membership with 88 members and presented the awards in behalf of Commander-in-Chie- f for the US Billy Ray Cameron. The membership voted to hold this year's Poppy Day sale close to Veterans Day in November. Sally Krouth was in charge of refreshments. Next meeting will be held June 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Armory. Mayor Mack Morley said if lights are to be used this year they should be ordered and plans made. He said the July 4 Committee has committed $3,000 to the project from last years earnings as well as the earnings from this years celebration. In other matters the council voted to lease a road grader, heard a request from Marty Leek to hire someone to help him with his work, talked of someone to cut the weeds along city streets, agreed that the mini-parneeds to have grass planted, and gave permission to Kayle Morley to put in curb and gutter. MORONI k Mayor Morley said the council needed to make a decision on whether to lease a road grader or not now that the city has sold the old grader. Cost of the grader would be per month for three years and then the city would own the grader. Alternatives were discussed and the council voted to lease the grader with Councilman Bob Morley voting against the proposal. $417 City employee Marty Leek said he needs soomeone to help him with his work. He said he suspects water is being lost somewhere in the system. He said there are still about 15 to 20 water meters in town which are not working, as well as water hydrants which need to be replaced. Mayor Morley said he would contact the Lions Club to see if they will plant the grass on the minipark. He said Brent Taylor roto-tille- d the mini-parand it should be planted before the weeds grow back. The council also spoke of the need of having someone hired to cut the weeds along city streets which was done by Monte Kellett before his k death. Councilman Bob Morley said Kayle Morley would like to put in curb and gutter in front of his home and wants to put it out on city property. The council agreed to let Morley do this with the provision that, if the city puts curb and gutter along the street, Morleys will be taken out and made to conform with the citys curb and gutter. Proposed budgets from the cemetery department and the Parks and Recreation department were handed in. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 8 p.m. PTA president elected at MS MORONI Wanda Taylor of Fairview, was recently installed as new president of the North Sanpete Middle School PTA at a recent meeting.
