Show May Mud slide - 1!K1 23. The Pyramid - Page Seven. Continued from page 1 of the cabins contents. Sportshaven managers Joe and Hanks began removing furniture and other household goods when the situation became critical, Sunday, and the owners of the cabin were notified. The Barneys left their homes in Alpine and Salt Lake and joined the Hanks in salvaging what they could of their property. Tuesday, with bedrolls laid out above the water level, they prepared their lunch, talked with geologists and watched the water of Birch Creek eat first under and then through their home. The cabins owners and Sport-shave- n managers were prepared to set the home ablaze if and when the water succeeded in undermining the foundations sufficient to carry the cabin off By doing this they hoped to avert debris from the home blocking up and creating a flash Hood condition for cabins and homes dowastream. Geologist, Robert Schuster of the U.S. Geological Survey, Denver, monitored the slide activity Monday. He predicted that the unstable hillside would probably continue to erode and slide until a vast amount of the mountain would come down. The greatest slide activity would probably not occur this year, however, he noted, but after more snow and saturation had affected the hillside, perhaps within a few years. Schuster was also monitoring a slide about 300 yards above the one which is claiming the Barney cabin. That slide visible by the virgin earth being uncovered and by pine trees slowly moving down the hillside, is also moving toward Birch Creek, and although it does not pose an immediate problem, the slide activity indicates the instability of the Janis The Sanpete District ScoutrO-Ram- a for all scouts and Scouts of all ages demonstrated scouting skills that the public was held Saturday at the county will help them in the world of tomorrow. Water to Mt. Pleasant residents was restored by Saturday evening, however, and no further restriction has been placed on its use. The break in the citys water line occurred near Sneak Springs, according to a city spokesman, and the boil order was a precautionary measure to insure that no contaminants had penetrated the water system. Water samples, taken at the time of the break later revealed that nocontamination had taken place, but the citys tank and water lines were disinfected to further insure the sanitation of the culinary line. The boil order was first given Thursday, May 17, when it was discovered that foreign materials might be entering the citys water line and a break was suspected. Reports later confirmed a break had, occurred and repairs began. The boil order remained in effect all day Friday and Saturday, and in addition, residents were asked not to use the culinary system for outside watering Saturday while crews drained the citys tanks and flushed out the lines. Water was never cut off although only one spring was supplying the entire city with water while the system was being disinfected. MT.
