Show DECEMBER 16, 1986 Clearfield FFA group to nationals CLEARFIELD The Clear-Hel- d High FFA has recently participated in a National Competition held in Kansas City, Mo. A team was advanced to this national competition in the Floriculture division after placing first in the Utah State competition. A group of students, including John Taylor, Tami King, Melissa Penley, Allison Adams, Burt Stoker, Roy Carlson and Tina Anderson, made the trip to Kansas City, along with their advisors Nile Carlson and David Potter between November 12 and 16. The team of four FFA members competed in the individual and team events and did very well. The Mr. Carlson on his groups performance. The students and advisors also felt this was a great experience to meet a lot of people who are interested in the same things. As described by Melissa Penley, one of the competitors, it was 21,816 Clearfield High team placed 23rd out of the 42 teams. The students were judged in the following areas during the competition: plant identification, dish gardens, demonstrating how to take a telephone order, grading kids running around in FFA carna- tions, plant judging, a Christmas arrangement, using candles and pine broughs, problem solving, and jackets." All in all, Mr. Carlson felt very good about the event. "There were very interesting speakers, the competition was very worthwhile and it was very educational for our written test. This week is the last week before Christmas vacation! Yea! The girls basketball team is undefeated in three games so far this season and looks to be a force to be dealt with again this year, They begin play in the Clearfield Invitational Tonight (the 11th). Good luck to the Lady Falcons. The wrestling team is showing promise for a great year. They have already competed at several meets and have placed a number of players. Despite the loss of a mainstring player, Darren Deursch, the team seems very strong with a lot of heart. They will wrestle Saturday the 13th here against Davis and Bon Morgan High School. to the wrestlers. Well that pretty well covers all the activities for this week. But just a little reminder to all those interested we are still selling fully decorated Christmas trees for money for the fund for Nathan Winger. If you would like a tree, please contact the school. They did a great job Wednesday too, considering the fact that the lights were out for half of the concert. Good job, guys! (and girls). Congratulations also go to the girls basketball team who defeated Ben Lomond at the Clearfield tournament last Thursday. The wrestlers also won their meet last week. Now, for the weeks events. Thursday, there is a sophomore basketball game at LHS against Bountiful. Our swim team is going against Clearfield. Friday is the varsity basketball game against Bountiful.
