Show NOVEMBER 4, 1986 L, WFFL Bowls Three Kaysville , one Layton team victorious By KEITH DUNCAN OGDEN Three Kaysville teams and another from Layton won their respective divisions during last Saturdays Wasatch Front Football League Mini Bowl. The first Kaysville team to win was the Junior PeeWee team which beat up on the Roy B" team, Kaysville finished the season with a perfect record of 26-1- 6-- 0. The Kaysville coaches included CUPPERJIM DAVIS BRIAN EMERY puts last few yards on 21 TD. HASKETT yard punt return that led to Davis Darts came to play title, we did something that no other Davis team has done, we beat the Alta Hawks. There were many players like Scott Bates, an offensive lineman, who played poorly the week before against East and even sat down the second half of that game. Last week against East I got kicked around by their No. 72, enough that didnt get to play the second half. Against Alta though, I felt I had a lot to prove because the coaches gave me another chance. I didnt care how big a guy Alta wanted to put in front of me, wasnt going to get beat. And I didnt. Boy it feels good to beat Alta, were the only team here to do that. At 7 and 175 pounds, Bates played like someone possessed, something that proved to be a big inspiration to his fellow teammates. Dickson, content with the progress made by players like Bates, commented, There are going to be weeks when we lose individual battles, but win the war. Scott just didnt play well the week before, but there was no question in my mind we were going to come back and count on him against Alta. Scott, like many others, came back against Alta and really got the job done against a team that is a lot bigger and more physical than what East has. Continued from previous page the week, preparing us for Alta. There wasnt anyway I was going to let them down. I believe the intensity level was turned way up for this game. I think we beat Alta by zeroing in on how to beat them and now well get our chance to play on the turf. More intensity showed from senior fullback and linebacker, Rob Warden. I don't think wed ever been as intense through a week of scouting reports, said Warden, "We knew everything that Alta was going to do in the first half. They changed things on us the second half, but once we got used to it, we started stopping them again. Warden said he felt the intensity flow, something like when someone comes up and pinches you. It better have been intense, because Alta has a good team and if we lost, it was closed curtains for us, continued Warden. I think we did have something to prove, said Warden, We let some people down in our school and in the community by not winning the region title and we wanted to make a good showing in the playoffs. But even though we didnt win the region Tucker Huntzinger, Spencer Wright, Matt Wooley, Chad Mayfield, Bo Brewr, Jared Christensen, Danny Erickson, Kevin Costa, Ryan Jensen, Adam Sheffield, Kyle Olsen, Chris Costa, Bobby Finlinson, Bart Paul, Josh King, Mike Smart, Nathan Jones, Ryan Bott, Justin Bolt and Steven Gall. 1 5-- one-wee- k Lakers next! KEITH DUNCAN In order for the Davis Darts to continue KAYSVILLE state championship, they must get by the their road to the unbeaten Bonneville Lakers this Friday morning at 10 a.m. The Lakers, winners over Kearns in their first round of the state playoffs, are playing their best football of the 1986 season so far. Before entering the playoffs, Bonneville crushed both Clearfield and Layton to remain unbeaten in Region One at The Lakers have a junior quarterback in Jim Wolverton who can both pass and run the football well. The 3 180 pound athlete has really come alive in recent weeks, throwing for seven touchdown passes in the past three games. Coach Thom Budge, the masterful head coach of Bonneville commented, "Jim is very pleasing to us right now. Perhaps the player who Bonneville will count on during crunch time is senior fullback Greg Cyphers who will be a money player on third down situations. Another talented backfield ace will be Kendall Youngblood who possesses plenty of talent. Youngblood has really come alive in recent weeks as well. Weve matured a lot, said Budge, Winning hasnt hurt anything either. The Bonneville coach isnt surprised in the teams success, except th they are unbeaten. I thought wed have a pretty good group this year, but to go unbeaten is a surprise to anyone who football, the coach continued to say. plays in The Lakers were a clutch team during the season, beating both Viewmont and Weber in overtime.
