Show OCTOBER 28, 1986 L, Halloween carnival set Society Clara Child Hill honored Mrs. Clara Child Hill of 888 W. 1800 N., Clinton, was honored Sunday, Oct. 26, with a family dinner to celebrate her 90th birthday. She was born Oct. 30, 1896 in Celebrates her 102 nd Katie Harris was bom Oct. 31, 884 in Layton, a daughter of Jacob E. and Mary Ann Layton. She moved to Clearfield, with her family, when she was 17 years old. Except for four years spent in Roy, she has lived in Clearfield ever since. On March 11, 1903 she married Orson Enoch Harris in Ogden. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Harris died Aug. 5, 1960. She lived in the same house all of her married life. All of her children ,vere born there. She is the mother of seven, five of whom are still living. A son, Milton, died as a child, and another son, Nean J. died this past August. Her living children are Wane Harris, Mrs. Fred K. (Afton) Brown and Mrs. Leo P. (Bula) Casteel, all of Clearfield; Mrs. Eldon (Mary) Howard, Carlin, Nev. and Mrs. Chester (Ethel) Scoffield, Townsend, Mont. She also has 17 grandchildren, 48 greatgrandchildren and 15 great-gregrandchildren. On her 100th birthday Clearfield City Council issued a proclamation, declaring Oct. 31st as Katie Harris Day. She was honored as Clearfields Mother of the Year in 1970 at a program sponsored by the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce. Was also voted Patient of the Month for October by Care West of Clearfield. Mrs. Harris has always been active in the LDS Church. She attended the dedication of the Salt Lake City Temple at age eight. Clinton, the daughter of Mark Anthony and Eliza Wright Child. She is the 10th child of 13, and is the only member of her family still 1 living. She married John H. Hill on Sept. 12, 1917, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died Nov. 14, 1982. The Monte FARMINGTON Vista PTA is sponsoring a Hallo- ween Carnival and Bazaar Bureau. She has served in the Relief Society and taught in the Sunday School, Primary and Mutual. Mrs. Hill has one daughter, Mrs. Allen A. (Dorothy) Adams, of Layton. One daughter is deceased. She also has two grandchildren, Janice A. Elmer and Roger B. Adams and three greatg- randchildren. Her current hobbies are writing histories and gathering genealogical data. Her principle occupations throughout her life were homemaking and farming. Wednesday, Oct. 29. The carnival will be held at Monte Vista School in Farmington from 9 p.m. There will be booths, a spook 6-- alley, cake walk, bazaar (maybe even bizarre) items for sale, balloon magic and a bake sale. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. The cost will be $1 per person. Activity tickets for the booths and cake walk will be 4 for $1. The public is invited. Hospital checks candy LAYTON Humana Hospital Davis North will continue its progexram of providing a free amination of Halloween "Trick r Treat bags, Oct. 3 from 9 p.m. 1 7-- Rick Davis, director of radiolobags are ex gy, said some 0 50-10- amined at the hospital each year since the program began in 1981. "We have never found any metallic objects in the candy or fruit," he said, "but some parents are still cautious and appreciate us examining the bags as a safety precaution. V learned the value of good food and how to take care of it. She milked cows, tended to the chickens, churned her ow n butter and traded it and eggs for groceries at the country store. Picked strawberries at Served 11 years in and raspberries and hauled them into Ogden by horse and buggy to sell. Has always canned her own fruits and vegetables. Was a wonderful cook. She learned to sew, knit and crochet for her family and has enjoyed doing this all her life. At age 96 she began crocheting again for enjoyment and has made eight rugs and 15 afghans. She finished her last afghan after she turned 101. Her eye sight has failed and arthritis has taken over the use of her hands. She received a blue ribbon at the Davis County Fair in 1982 for one of her afghans. Katie Harris will celebrate her 102nd birthday at Care West Clearfield with her immediate family and close relatives. the Primary organization as teacher, president and other executive positions, Relief Society Visiting Teacher for 50 in charge years, also of quilt making and in charge of many ward dinners. Having been raised on. a farm and married to a farmer, she Sorority group meets Sigma Phi, met Oct. 14, 7:30 p.m. at the home of Sharon Booth in Kaysville. President Karla Broed er presided. Guests Linda Luzitano and The cultural program, Dreams was given by Sharon Booth. Musical selections with the theme of dreams were played. in Music Convention chairman, Sharon will also present the cultural Booth, reported on the progress of plans being made for the Utah program. I CLARA CHILD HILL She spent her early married life later moving to Clinton. She has been a Relief Society visiting teacher for more than 65 years. She is a member of the Sego Lily Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She is a member of the Clinton 6th Ward. She was a member of the Silver Spurs Riding Club, a charter member and secretary to the ladies auxiliary of the Davis County Farm in Layton, 0 Army Major gets medal Clearfield, has been decorated 8, Naomi Seaton were welcomed. f Maj. Paul A. Hinojosa, son of Paul D. Hinojosa of 1664 E. 800 S., State Convention to be held June 26-21987 at the Excellisor in Provo. The purpose of the convention is to bring chapters into closer fellowship and to advance the aims of Beta Sigma Phi through the exchange of ideas and information. All Beta Sigma Phi members are encouraged to attend. The next meeting will be held Oct. 28, 7:30 p.m. in Kaysville at the home of Karla Broeder. She Preceptor Iota Chapter, Beta 4. with the third award of the Army Commendation Medal in West Germany. The Army Commendation Med- al is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Army. Hinojosa is an executive officer with the 53rd Transportation Battalion. He is a 1974 graduate of Weber State College.
